After holding in captivity 176 persons kidnapped from communities in Kaiama local government area of Kwara State for six months the terror gang behind their ordeal has threatened to marry off the beautiful ones among them and kill the others.
Families of the hostages have so far raised N155m ransom, but this was rejected by the terror gang who demanded for sums running into billions of naira.
“We have done everything within our means. The money was raised, yet our people have not been released.
“Their suffering continues, and families are living in agony,” said Abdul Ibrahim, an indigene of Kaiama on BBC Hausa Service.
He added that the terrorists threatened to force the “beautiful” female captives into marriage and kill the remaining hostages if their demands were not met.
The victims most women and children were taken on February 3 from Woro and surrounding communities of Nuku and Kemaanji reports confirmed at least 75 deaths during the initial raid, while local community associations estimated higher numbers.
Hundreds of frustrated citizens and youths from Kwara North staged peaceful protests in Kaiama town carrying placards and chanting “Enough is Enough” to pressure Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and federal authorities into more aggressive rescue actions.
Ibrahim said peaceful demonstrations organised by residents had also failed to attract the level of intervention expected from the authorities.
He warned that every additional day in captivity exposed the victims, particularly the women, to greater danger.
