World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles Tobi Amusan fell short of her mission to win a Commonwealth Games hat-trick of titles after mistiming a hurdle.
Amusan had her name written on the gold already when she clocked a wind assisted 12.19secs return in the semi-final. But fate played against her in the last roll of the dice, and Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton benefited from Amusan’s misfortune. She took the gold with a time of 12.33 seconds. Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed the silver medal with a time of 12.41 seconds, while Amusan mustered some courage to finish 12.60 seconds for the broze.
“I came here with the aim of winning the gold, but things happen.
“I’m thankful to God I got the bronze and I just have to keep on going with the rest of my season,” Amusan said.
