The US government has called on its Nigerian counterparts to identify and prosecute the killers of nine people including a two months baby related Plateau State clergyman Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo.
According to a statement released by the US State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs, the attacks on the Kum community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on July 12 were disturbing and the Nigerian government must take immediate action to prevent further killings in the Nigerian middle belt region.
“The United States strongly condemns the horrific killing of members of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo’s family in Plateau State, Nigeria,” the bureau said in the statement signed by Frank W Garcia its assistant secretary.
“The continued violence targeting Christian communities and other vulnerable populations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt is deeply alarming.
“As I discussed last week with Nigerian officials, we must do more to prevent violent acts like those yesterday.
“The perpetrators must be held accountable, and urgent action is needed to strengthen security and protect Christians and other vulnerable communities.”
Rev Dachomo accused Fulani Militia men of carrying out the attacks saying in a social media post his life is being threatened by the same terror group who wrote him a letter warning him is their next target.
According to him, the violence against his family appears connected to his outspoken position on the security crisis affecting communities in Plateau State.
