Former Miss Universe runner up Chidimma Adetshina will wait till August 19, 2026 to find out whether she will remain in the country of her birth South Africa or be deported.
Miss Adetshina was in court on Monday to argue against plans by South Africa Home Affairs Department to have her deported for not being properly documented.
After the hearing on Monday Adetshina submitted through her lawyer that she is taking every step to regularise her residency status and also that she was born in South Africa, speaks the language and have given birth to her son in South Africa. The defence told the court that there are reasonable ways of resolving the issue and that Adetshina is ready to report to immigration control every two weeks.
But the Home Affairs department lawyers insisted that she does not have the necessary paperwork. They also argued that she holds a Nigerian passport and has refused to give up her South African passport.

Adetshina was arrested two weeks ago by Home Affairs for allegedly being in South Africa illegally. But she was later released.
Adetshina was born to a Nigerian father and Mozambique mother in South Africa, she had spent all her life there till 2024 when she decided to contest in the Miss South African pageant, she was hounded out by South Africans who claimed she was not one of them.
She was then invited to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she won and represented the country at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico.
The South Africans weren’t so proud of her move to represent Nigeria.
