A popular Congolese boxer Romeo Katompa a.k.a Bololo has been burned alive in what appears to be a grotesque twist to the xenophobic attacks by South African hate mobs.
Bololo who has lived in Gauteng, South Africa for many years was killed in Johannesburg on July 17 sparking an outrage among the Congolese community in South Africa and among the African boxing circle. He used to be a sparring partner for Junior Makabu, the former WBC cruiserweight world champion.
Bololo is married to a South African citizen and he is the father of one child.
Riotous mobs have targeted black African migrants and several people have been brutally murdered; no arrest have been made nor anyone held accountable for deaths by the government of South Africa, which seems to have given a nob to the wave of xenophobic protests calling on black African migrants to leave South Africa before June 30. These protests have often escalated to violent attacks.
Over 50,000 African migrants have been evacuated from South Africa by their respective countries of origin.
