Onye Eze Jesus... heading to jail

17.7.2026

Anambra State’s crackdown on “fake prophets and spiritualists” has caught up with a popular self-acclaimed Prophet, Onyebuchi Okocha a.k.a Onye Eze Jesus.
Onye Eze Jesus was on Friday sentenced to a six-year jail term and a N20M fine imposed on him by a High Court sitting in Awka.
He was accused of violating Anambra Homeland Security Law, prohibiting fraudulent spiritual practices in the State.
Delivering judgment, presiding judge Justice Jude Obiora held that individuals who claim to possess supernatural powers capable of making people wealthy through prohibited practices, or who prepare charms outlawed under the Anambra Homeland Security Law, are liable to imprisonment and financial penalties.
The court subsequently found Onye Eze Jesus guilty under the provisions of the law enacted to curb activities considered a threat to public safety and security.
His prosecution stemmed from the Anambra State Government’s security crackdown launched in February 2025, during which several high-profile native doctors and spiritualists were arrested over allegations of promoting ritual practices, preparing criminal charms and making claims capable of encouraging unlawful activities.
The operation formed part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s broader security initiative aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring public confidence in the state.
