Federal government prosecutors have filed a ten-count terrorism charge against three men at a Federal High Court in Abuja after they were arrested by the Department of State Services in connection with the infamous kidnap of 44 students and teachers from Oyo State schools.
The suspects include Abdulrazak Umar (aka Abu Khalifa), Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani (aka Abu Itisar), all from Suleja, Niger State. They have been accused of terrorism, kidnapping, concealment, incitement, and illegal mining.
According to the prosecution the men conspired with Muhammad Sani, Jibril Mohammed, and Ibrahim Khabab between January and May to kidnap the victims and also actively participated in the abduction and concealing information about the identities and activities of the alleged masterminds.
Gunmen stormed three different schools in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State in May and abducted the victims including 39 students and seven teachers. Two of the teachers were killed during the kidnap ordeal.
However, the victims were rescued by security forces on July 10 after spending 56 days in the forest. According to security agents, the kidnappers were cornered after their collaborators were arrested and they had no option than to give up the kids and their teachers.
