The Nigerian Senate Wednesday shied away from debating the controversy surrounding the alleged fake government agency the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC.
Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu are in the centre of the PFIPC a government agency claimed to be nonexistence, but the Senate approved a budgetary allocation to it.
Senator Suleiman Kawu representing Kano South, Suleiman Kawu, said while raising a point of order at Wednesday’s plenary, citing Order 9 and Rule 9(c) of the Senate Standing Orders (2026), that there is a need for investigation into the controversy.
“Urgent Need to Investigate the Budgetary Allocation, Operations and Controversy surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) to safeguard the Integrity of the Senate and the Federal Government.
“The Senate notes with concern that, in recent weeks, the public space has been inundated with allegations, controversies, accusations and counteraccusations concerning an entity known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).”
However, he was quickly shut down by the deputy Senate president, Senator Barau Jibrin. He said the matter shouldn’t be debated, because investigations have already been started by the executive branch of government.
This was received with a little bit of trepidation by some of the lawmakers who felt the Senate should have been more concerned about the development, which somewhat indicted them for not doing their oversight job.
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday gave the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, 30 days to unravel the circumstances PFIPC.
