World football governing body FIFA has snubbed France’s effort to reverse Michael Olise’s yellow card as they prepare to face Morocco in Thursday’s quarter final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
France had made the move to unbook Olise following FIFA’s reprieve for Folarin Balogun, the US top scorer who got a red against Bosnia Herzegovina in the round of 32, but was cleared to play in the against Belgium in the round of 16, without any clear justification. A development that sparked an uproar in the world of football, other teams have tried to do the same, to see if FIFA will turn a blind eye too.
Olise would be free to play against Morocco and if he picks another yellow he would miss the semifinal if France beat Morocco.
“There is no change regarding Olise’s caution. We have received communication from FIFA that the caution for him stands,” said France coach Didier Deschamps
Olise wasn’t the only French player to receive a yellow card: Manu Koné and Bradley Barcola also got booked during the match against Paraguay, which means that if any of them receives a yellow card, they will miss the potential semi-final match.
Meanwhile Deschamps said his star striker Kylian Mbappe is unmoved by the racist attack lobbed at him by Paraguay politician Celeste Amarilla.
“Kylian is in a good place mentally. He’s ready for tomorrow.”
