A Nigeria police team Monday morning invaded the family home of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the principal figure in the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
According to human rights activist and frontline lawyer Femi Falana the police stormed Mr. Adeyemi’s family home in Ogbomoso and picked up his father and a family friend who was visiting the house.
“Police have now stormed the house of the parents of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, Plot 3, Adeniyi Dynasty, behind Technical College, Road Safety Area, Ogbomoso,” Falana told journalists.
“The father has been arrested. There is no legal basis for substituted arrests. The young man has promised to show up in court, so why arrest his father?”
According to witnesses in the neighbourhood, the police arrived in four vans and laid siege to the compound.
“They came with four vehicles, and they started harassing them and eventually took the father away,” one of the residents told the Punch.
“They didn’t allow the neighbours to intervene before they took him away. At the moment, there is a man in blue clothes patrolling the area.
“Baba was taken away with someone who came to visit them this morning. They left the mother, who is currently in shock, but we have moved her away,” the resident said.
Mr. Adeyemi claimed to have paid Hon Femi Gbajabiamila N400m to secure his appointment as director-general of the PFIPC, adding that trouble started when Gbajabiamila the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu demand for 48 percent of the budgetary allocation to the agency.
But Hon Gbajabiamila denied the existence of the agency and the accusations, he branded Mr. Adeyemi an imposter, but Adeyemi insisted that he has documents to back his claims and has vowed to present himself in court to face allegations of impersonation and forgery, slammed against him by the government.
