Brazil came from a goal down against a well organised Japanese team to win 2-1 in their round of 32 FIFA World Cup clash in Houston USA on Monday.
Kaishu Sano stole the ball from Casamiro in the midfield race down and picked his spot to slot in the first goal in this 29th minute.
Brazil’s relentless pressure paid off in the 56th minute when Casamiro head in the equaliser.
Gabriel Martinelli spared the Brazilian fans the agony of a potential shootout show down when scored in injury time to hand Brazil a deserved win.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said after the game: “We didn’t lose our patience, we had a lot of resources on the pitch and on the bench. Japan isn’t an easy opponent, it’s very organized and intense.
“I was saving Neymar for the extra time. He was going to enter the pitch on minute 105 if we hadn’t scored the second goal. I didn’t want to change the structure because the team was playing well.”
Goal scorer Martinelli added he was happy putting the smile on the faces of Brazil fans.
“Seeing all those fans on their feet, my parents, my friends… I can’t explain it. After hitting the woodwork, I knew I’d get another chance. I honestly don’t have the words. I’m just happy I was able to help the team, whether I’m playing on the left or through the middle. The most important thing is helping the team.”
