Athletics Federation of Nigeria has invited 29 athletes for camping towards the 2026 Commonwealth Games billed to start July in Glasgow Scotland.
Elite athletes like Samuel Ogazi, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Ella Onojuvwehwo made the team despite not participating in the national trials held June 21-23.
“There’s no way we can leave our best athletes out of the team, that would be crazy,” said National Sports Commission elite and podium performance board chairman Yusuf Alli.
“They would have been here but for travel arrangements and visas to return to America.”
The athletes made up of 14 male and 15 female are expected to converge in Abuja from Thursday June 25, 2026.
The athletics team to the 2026 Commonwealth Games will compete in 18 events across track and field including the three relays scheduled for the games- 4 × 100metres men, 4 × 100metres women and Mixed 4 × 400metres.
