Political activist Omoyele Sowore has been remanded in prison after he appeared at a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday for his ongoing trial on charges of cyberbullying.
Presiding judge Mohammed Umar ordered that Sowore, be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja pending the hearing and determination of his motion to stay the order revoking his bail and bench warrant.

The Department of State Services brought the case against Sowore after he was accused of criminal defamation and alleged cybercrime over social media posts in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal” on his X, formerly Twitter, and Facebook accounts.
The case has continued to generate significant public attention, with concerns being raised by observers over issues relating to free speech, political expression and the limits of online commentary in Nigeria.
