Omoni Oboli’s decision to release her flick “The First Lady” on YouTube while late Alexx Ekubo was hardly buried has irked Ossai Ovie a media aide to the Delta State governor.
Ossai who was writing on his Facebook social media page blasted Omoni Oboli saying her move was ill timed even as Omoni Oboli said she would give all the proceeds to the late Ekubo’s family.
“I’m disappointed in Omoni Oboli for using Alexx Ekubo’s burial to promote her movie and to cash out”, Ossai wrote.
“Using someone’s death as PR to gain subscribers is disturbing, and to cash out under the pretense All proceeds from the movie go to the family of the late Alex Ekubo’ or to keep his memories alive is disappointing.”
Ossai dismissed Oboli’s explanation that the film began her friendship with Ekubo 11–12 years ago, saying it did not justify the timing of the release.
“I just watched her video where she announced she’ll be releasing The First Lady, a film she said started their friendship 11–12 years ago”, he continued.
“I know the “proceeds donation” line will distract people from the real intent, but it’s clear this is a way of leveraging people’s emotions to subtly promote her YouTube channel. Grief is not content. A funeral is not a launch event.”
Ekubo was buried on Thursday in Ujari, Arochukwu LGA, Abia State, with family, colleagues, and dignitaries present.
He died on May 11, 2026 at 40 from complications of metastatic kidney cancer
