Peter Obi the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate has commended Nigerian singer David Adeleke a.k.a Davido for giving a shout out to the 46 students and teachers kidnapped by gunmen in Oyo State.
During his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Davido wore a jacket adorned with the names of the victims and on the back of the jacket he had “Bring them back home” boldly written.
This action by Davido earned praise from Nigerians, but some President Bola Tinubu’s supporters like Reno Omokri advised Davido on how not to drag the name of his country in the mud even as his intention was good.
But weighing into the issue Mr. Obi said: “Davido’s impactful gesture in drawing global attention to Nigeria’s security challenges warrants commendation.
“He prominently displayed the names of schoolchildren who had been held captive for an extended period, advocating for their safe return,” he stated.
Obi said the singer went beyond entertainment by using an international platform to highlight the country’s security challenges.
“By utilizing his international platform, Davido effectively highlighted Nigeria’s security crisis, transcending mere entertainment,” he said.
