All Progressive Congress mouthpiece Joe Igbokwe was heckled at the popular auto parts market Ladipo, Lagos recently and it took the efforts of the market leaders to rescue him from possible manhandling.
Igbokwe disclosed that he had gone to the market to purchase parts for his vehicle when some of the youths recognised him and started whistling abuses.
“Yesterday, I went to Ladipo Market to get some spare parts for my vehicle. While searching for the parts, some people started calling my name and pointing at me. I ignored them and continued with what I came to do,” he posted on his Facebook social media platform.
“After purchasing the parts, I returned to my vehicle to fix it. Suddenly, some youths in the market started gathering and shouting, ‘This is Igbokwe, this is Igbokwe. So can you come to this market?’
“I initially ignored them, but as the crowd kept growing, I decided to move into my friend’s shop. My friend then contacted the market leadership, who stepped in and helped manage the situation.
“When I eventually came out, people were saying different things, but I did not respond. I simply entered my vehicle and drove away.
“I woke up this morning and saw posts claiming Joe Igbokwe was beaten. I was not beaten. This is me,” he said.
He expressed hope that such an incident would not happen again and hinted that he would take appropriate action if confronted with a similar situation in the future.
