The Anambra State government Friday arraigned eight pastors including Bishop Emeka Nwankpa a Nigeria Democratic Congress Senatorial aspirant for Abia Central, for alleged fakery of miracles and prophecies.
Nwankpa, an Abia indigene and a Bishop of an Onitsha-based Pentecostal Church, and others were escorted into the Anambra High Court, Awka, by Anambra vigilante group Agunechemba, led by Ken Emeakayi who is also special adviser on security to Governor Charles Soludu.
The prosecution head by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Anambra State, Tobechukwu Nweke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, did not make the charges against the pastors known to the public, but according to reports the clergymen were picked up for violating the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
But media aide to Bishop Nwankpa, Stanley Nduagu accused the Anambra State government of wrongful prosecution. He insisted that Nwankpa has never been involved in fake activities in over 25 years of his ministry.
Governor Soludo had launched a crackdown on suspected fake pastors who allegedly exploit residents on the pretext of religion. The administration also launched a similar crackdown on native doctors, and other spiritualists who encourage criminality by making charms for armed robbers, kidnappers, and terrorists.
