Police investigators said they have traced N2 billion to the account of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps officer in course of their investigation into the murder of a senior officer Agada Levi Agada allegedly by colleagues.
According to reports, Levi Agada was killed during an operation in Nasarawa State and police investigations, after a petition by his family led to the arrest of Simeon Yakubu Anyebe, Ibrahim Ayefu and Iwodi Oboch who are members of the NSCDC Mining Marshals Unit.
The deceased was reportedly shot while on duty during an operation at Rafin Gabas in the Agwada area of Nasarawa State.
The police disclosed that investigators traced over N2 billion to a bank account belonging to an NSCDC Mining Marshal, with efforts ongoing to determine the nature of the transactions and any links to other suspects.
According to the police, several Mining Marshal personnel were invited for questioning but failed to honour the invitations.
“We traced over N2 billion into the Zenith Bank account of Sergeant Labaran, the account number is 1008392780; and we have been able to trace the transfer and receipt of such clandestine monies from his account to and from the accounts of some of the other suspects,” the police stated.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the NSCDC Mining Unit, John Onoja, has rubbished the police report.
“The Zenith Bank account number 1008392780 of Jibrin Labaran, from the statement of account of the last year, contains a total debit of ₦760,457.25 and total credit of ₦760,129.85, being his emolument as an officer, as against a ₦2 billion claim in the purported police investigation report that was published online,” he said.
He alleged that the police and some foreign nationals operating illegal mining are trying to discredit the NSCDC Mining Unit.
He called on the Department of State Services to take over the investigations of the murder of Levi Agada, for an impartial conclusion.
