President Bola Tinubu has promised to redouble his efforts at tackling the twin evils of insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigerians as he celebrated his third year in office.
Speaking on Friday he noted that his administration has committed resources to combating terrorism and crimes that have brought the country down on its knees.
“Security remains central to our national mission and to the creation of a virile and prosperous society,” the President said.
“Our armed forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves and criminal networks.
“While challenges remain, many communities and highways are becoming safer and more economically active.
“We are improving the capabilities of our armed forces and security agencies and reclaiming the authority of the Nigerian state wherever criminality threatens peace and order.”
On infrastructure and economic recovery, Mr Tinubu said there are signs the country is on the right path to recovery.
“A nation develops when its people can see and touch progress. From highways under construction to rail modernisation and expanded energy investments, our goal remains clear: to build a Nigeria that works for Nigerians,” he said.
“We have not solved every problem, and we are not yet where we want to be. But the foundation for recovery has been laid,” he stated.
“We shall achieve this task by continuing to ensure that food prices, which have largely come down from their peak in 2023/2024, remain low,” he said.
But former Vice President and 2027 presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar said Tinubu has failed the nation after three years of being the saddle.
“Three years ago, President Tinubu promised renewed hope. What Nigerians have received instead is renewed hardship, renewed insecurity, renewed poverty, and renewed hopelessness.
“Let no one be deceived. The era of complacency is over. The era of propaganda is ending. The era of taking Nigerians for granted is coming to a close.
“The people are awake. The people are watching. And when the time comes, they will deliver their verdict through the ballot,” Atiku said in a statement signed by his special assistant on public communication, Phrank Shaibu.
