Nigeria Democratic Party Wednesday screened and cleared Peter Obi to be its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Obi a former Anambra State governor and also 2023 presidential candidate on the platform of the Labour Party said after his “coronation” that his target would be to make Nigerians sleep comfortably as he aims to tackle insurgency, banditry, embark on economy recovery programmes and make Nigerians more united than ever.
“We want mothers to sleep peacefully knowing their children are safe at school and safe at work. We want Nigerians to travel freely across the country without fear of kidnappings, attacks, or violence,” Obi told news reporters in Abuja.
“We are not a united nation; my primary goal is to bring Nigeria together.”
He noted that unity and security remain the foundation upon which economic growth, investment, and national stability must stand. On the misappropriation of funds and corruption Obi added:
“We need a Nigeria where public resources are used for public good and not turned into private wealth. The fight against corruption must be sincere, transparent, and beneficial to the people.”
