Nollywood veteran actor and politician Desmond Elliot has vowed to press on with his quest to represent Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, despite calls by some big wigs of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) for him to step aside to withdraw.
This follows an alleged role played by Elliot in the impeachment of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa earlier in the year. But speaking during a chat on Channels TV, Elliot denied his mentor and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, had asked him to step down for another aspirant, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare.
“Because I was not asked by him, my leader (Gbajabiamila), never,” Elliot said.
“We are being intimidated in Surulere. If you know you are popular on the ground, do not intimidate the people.
“But at the end of the day, I am here to also serve the people. I do have the leadership; I do have the people. So, the President has said, let the people decide. If they want you to continue, you continue.”
Elliot was elected by the people of Surulere in 2015 to be their representative. He said is still keen to serve his people and also eyeing Speaker of the House position.
