Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential aspirant Peter Obi said if he is successful with his bid, he would do one term in office.
Obi who many believe won the 2023 presidential elections, but was outmatched by political forces who have their choice of candidate, recently teamed up with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwanso and both migrated to the Nigeria Democratic Party after their first port of call to achieve their goal to unseat President Tinubu got frustrated at the African Democratic Congress.
Speaking during an interview with Central TV Thursday, Obi said his mission of reviving Nigeria’s economy in four years can be achieved.
“I want to be a one-term president because of stability,” he said.
“I would not stay a day longer than four years, even with a gun to my head.”
In the same chat Obi harped on the need for free and fair elections, according to him Nigerians need to keep an eye on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan.
Obi said, “If anybody had told me that we could use Professors to run our elections and it would be worse, I would have said a capital no.
“I wrote to the present INEC Chairman and said, ” Remember, you will not be here forever”.
Asked if INEC is an agent of the president, Obi said, “Yes, completely. Whatever the INEC Chairman is doing today, he is acting the script written by the man who employed him”.
