Keir Starmer...tough times ahead.

12.5.2026

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Tuesday he will continue on the job, despite pressure for him to step aside.
Calls for Starmer to resign are coming on the heels of Labour Party’s loss in last week’s local elections across the UK.
Starmer said there’s a process to oust a leader and that hadn’t been triggered.
“The country expects us to get on with governing,” he said. “That is what I am doing and what we must do.”
The statement from Starmer’s office also said, “The past 48 hours have been destabilising for government, and that has a real economic cost for our country and for families.”
Meanwhile, housing, communities and local government minister Miatta Fahnbulleh stepped down and urged Starmer “to do the right thing for the country” and set a timetable to step aside
Also, Alex Davies-Jones resigned as British minister for Victims & Violence Against Women and Girls, becoming the third junior minister to step down.
In her resignation letter to the prime minister, the victims minister said the country “has spoken and we must listen.”
“I implore you to act in the country’s interest and set out a timetable for your departure,” she said.
The resignations came as more than 70 Labour MPs have urged the prime minister either to step down immediately or to draw up a timeline for leaving office. Agency reports
