West Ham are refusing to lay low on their disallowed goal against Arsenal in Sunday’s win or burst Premier League match at the London Stadium.
Arsenal had to win to maintain their lead on the table, while West Ham needed all three points to boost their relegation survival battle.
The Hammers thought they had rescued a point after Arsenal had snatched the lead through Leandro Trossard in the 83rd, but VAR ruled out Callum Wilson’s header in stoppage time.
Referee Chris Kavanagh announced that a foul has been committed against Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. The debate was still ongoing on Monday.
West Ham are now filing a complaint and requesting explanation from Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO following the controversial decision.
Meanwhile opinion is divided on the disallowed goal. While many agree Raya was fouled, they argued that Arsenal had benefited from such set piece goals during the campaign.
Former Manchester United legendary keeper Peter Schmeichel stated that it was a crazy decision to rule out the goal.
But United former striker Wayne Rooney said: “VAR did a really good job” in disallowing the goal.
“It’s a clear foul,” Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show.
“You’re going to obviously get a lot of people saying they think it should have stood because it’s controversial and probably all the [Manchester] City players, staff, fans are going to say it should have stood. And then you’re going to get all the Tottenham fans, players, staff saying it shouldn’t have stood and of course the Arsenal fans and stuff.
“But it’s a clear foul. I think you can clearly see the arm crosses his face and it impacts him getting to the ball. So I think it’s the right decision.
“It’s the one time I actually think VAR has done a really good job in such an important game.”
