Comeback Nigerian sprint sensation Ashe Favour, said he is seriously eager to get himself back into track and field reckoning following some recent topsy turvy in his career.
Ashe Favour who was caught up in a nationality change drama returned to the Nigerian team and was very impactful at the just concluded World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.
Looking ahead at the African Championships May 12-17, Ashe Favour plans to announce himself big in the face of keen competition expected from top African sprinters in Accra, Ghana.
“I’m in good shape, and my goal in Accra is to win gold in the 100m and also help the team secure gold in the relays,” said the young athlete.
“Before the championships, it was ‘Ashe this, Ashe that, Ashe is finished,’ but I’ve proven my worth.
“I give all the glory to God for the results we achieved.”
If there were to be a full house in Accra, the African Championships men’s 100m, would be a blast. Though veterans like Akani Sabine 9.98 season’s best, Ferdinand Omanyala 9.95 season’s best have cast doubt in their participation, there will still be a top notch contest.
Ashe Favour would have to dig deep into his proven capacity of 9.94secs personal best to mint the gold in the event.
Botswana’s Busang Kibinatshipi with a 9.89secs world leading time is the man to beat, that’s if he would be on ground.
Others include Ghana’s Joseph Paul Amoah with a season’s best of 10.1 and Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme 10.02 seconds season’s best.
