Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has offered to bring back Nigerians who have been affected by the xenophobic violence in South Africa and are ready to leave.
South African groups have been protesting against fellow black Africans living in their country, accusing them of taking over their jobs and their women, and now they want them to leave. Many Nigerians have been targeted and their means of livelihood destroyed.
Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu said in a statement that President Tinubu is ready to repatriate Nigerians who are ready to leave South Africa.
She said that so far about 130 Nigerians have registered with the Nigerian embassy in South Africa expressing their desire to return to their country.
“Nigerian lives and businesses in South Africa must not continue to be put at risk,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu said.
According to her, the Nigerian consulate is working with the high commission in Pretoria to gather sufficient data to arrange a special evacuation flight.
