Veteran coach Jose Mourinho has refused to be drawn into conversations on his likely return to Real Madrid.
There are speculations the Portuguese born coach could take over from Alvaro Arbeloa in the summer, according to reports, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been in talks with his agent Jorge Mendes.
Mourinho who took Benfica from the verge of relegation to Champions League contenders in 2027 is also keen to return to Spanish capital. He has just one year left in his Benfica contract, but he has a clause that would allow him to leave for just €3m.
Sky Sport DE reports that personal terms and contract length will not get in the way of any move, and if Real Madrid do offer him the job, the deal will happen.
Also transfer expert Florian Plettenberg posted on X social media platform.
” Jorge Mendes and Florentino Perez have been in direct talks for days over Jose #Mourinho. Personal terms and contract length are not an issue.
“Mourinho is 100% ready to return to Real Madrid. If the final decision falls in his favour, then it will be Mourinho.”
However, speaking on the development Mourinho said during an interview with Il Giornale: “My next target is to bring Benfica back to the Champions League.”
