A couple identified as Paul Onyeama and Adline Ogbonna are chatting with the Police in Lagos after allegedly beating a 10-year-old girl in their care to death.
According to reports the couple who adopted the girl named only as Faith had constantly abused the minor and on April 26 in their residence in the Igando area of Lagos state, subjected the child to repeated physical abuse, despite been ill for two weeks.
“The couple had adopted a 10-year-old girl. They had been consistently maltreating and assaulting the child, while also sending her on unnecessary errands,” a resident in the area told the Punch.
“I was informed that the girl had been sick for about two weeks, yet the abuse continued. Yesterday, both the husband and wife allegedly beat the child severely despite her condition, and sadly, she died.”
On realising Faith was no longer responding the couple took her to a hospital where she was confirmed dead on arrival. Angered by the news several youths seized the couple as they arranged to dispose the body.
The police later arrived and took the couple into custody, while investigations have begun. The body of the deceased has reportedly been taken for examination as part of the inquiry.
