Galatasaray’s drive to win a back to back Turkish League title received a boost after a 3-0 thrashing of rivals Fenerbahce on Sunday at the Rams Park in Istanbul.
Top striker Victor Osimhen got his wish to start in the derby between the European side and the Asian side of Istanbul and he deliver for Galatasaray.
The game was cagey in the opening minutes, but Osimhen put his side ahead in the 40th minute after he directed the ball forwards goal with a header from a free kick, and then jabbed it in from close range with his knee. It was all the assurance the fans from the European side of Istanbul needed to know it was going to be a beautiful day.
Baris Yilmaz extended the lead in the 60th minute from the penalty spot. Fenerbahce goalkeeper Ederson argued with referee and was given the marching orders on second yellow card.
Lucas Torreira scored the third cashing in on a howler by Fenerbahce’s replacement goalkeeper Mert Gunok in the 83rd minute.
With the big win Galatasaray are seven points clear at top of table at 74 points with five games left to play.
