Former Real Madrid attacking midfielder Jose Maria Gutierrez also known as Guti, has warned his former club to back off Jose Mourinho.
As the Los Blancos head for another season without a trophy there are speculations that Real Madrid might go for Mourinho in the summer.
Guti speaking to DAZN on the speculations said: “Mourinho is a great coach, but I think his ‘prime’ stage is not now, in the sense that he comes from Fenerbahce, he took Benfica at a very bad time and I think there are coaches in a better state than Mou or that I would sign,” he said
Mourinho’s name has re-emerged in discussions after reports suggested his agent Jorge Mendes has offered him to Real Madrid, while also informing the club of a release clause in his current deal at Benfica.
That clause is reportedly structured in a way that could allow Madrid to sign him without a transfer fee, although it is said to have a limited activation window.
Mourinho himself has not closed the door on a return, recently indicating that discussions over his future could take place after the season concludes.
The Portuguese coach previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup during his tenure.
