Over 1000 Nigerian taekwondo players are expected to participate in the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation National Open Trials billed for Abeokuta, Ogun State May 13-17, 2026.
It is one competition the NTF is organising with a view of exposing new talents that could form the nucleus of its national team in upcoming international competitions.
According to the NTF the events for the championship include kyorugi world weight categories, poomsae individual and pair, poomsae team and freestyle.
Speaking on the upcoming event NTF president, Ms Tayo Popoola noted that the trial is open to all taekwondo players across the country since the intention is to select the very best that will represent the country.
“The trial is to pick champions that will represent our country in all the weight categories at any international competition , and it will also help in ranking our athletes for proper database.
“We are expecting players from all the states’ organisations, institutions, and clubs,” Popoola said.
