Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has met with Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed in his bridge building effort to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Bala Mohammed was previously courted by President Tinubu’s All Progressive Congress, but they failed to woo the political bride to join the bandwagon of cross carpeting into the APC.
Obi and Bala kept sealed lips after their meeting in Bauchi, but according to the governor they had useful conversation concering the well-being of the country.
“He is talking about unifying the country, building bridges, and creating a new tomorrow for Nigeria. This is what we stand for as a state and as a people. We feel highly honoured by this visit,” Bala stated.
Speaking on his political future Bala said that he was ‘partyless’ at the moment, but his commitment would be to build alliances that will help salvage the country.
” I am a freelance politician now, and my party is also in limbo. We are looking up to the judiciary.
“Certainly, we are all in the opposition, and that is why I say this is a political discussion. We will not disclose everything we have discussed in terms of the ‘I’s and ‘t’s we have crossed.
“We cannot operate without a platform. At the end of the day, the current political situation may even help unify us and strengthen our chances of winning elections.”
Speaking before the closed door meeting Obi said: “We want to have a united country to build a future for our children. The country cannot continue the way it is today, we are headed in the wrong direction and we need to reverse that for everybody and that is why we are here to seek his support in building a new Nigeria, that’s for the benefit for all.
“We are building that Nigeria the way it used to be where child of nobody will learn to be somebody without knowing anybody thank you.”
