The police in Nasarawa State have nabbed a 37-years-old pastor, identified as Asonye Isaiah, who allegedly had a forceful penetration of a 16-years minor under the guise of casting out demons.
The pastor who is in charge at the Rock of Love and Mercy Adoration Ground, Old Karshi, Abuja, committed the crime on April 18. According to the police the pastor deceived the aunt of the victim into thinking her niece needed deliverance and cleansing at a river.
But instead he drove the victim to a hotel in New Karshi where he sexually abused her twice and warned that she would die if she ever squealed on the incident.
But the victim’s aunt noticed changes in her attitude when she returned home and asked her questions. The aunt promptly took her for a medical examination where it was confirmed she had been violated.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and pleaded for leniency,” Nasarawa police spokesperson SP Rahman Nansel said in a statement on Sunday.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
He assured that justice would be served and urged members of the public to exercise caution regarding the places of worship they attend and individuals who parade themselves as clerics.
