A mortuary attendant in Agwabi community, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State treated town folks to a horror spectacle by walking with a severed leg of a deceased person.
The morgue attendant simply identified as Amaobi was seen going from one location to the other on Friday with the dead leg.
Eyewitnesses said the unusual sight caused panic and confusion among residents. Passersby reportedly stopped in disbelief as the man approached a local retailer to buy items. He was promptly arrested by youths who summoned courage to put an end to the horror show and was later handed over to the police.
Amaobi told the police he put up the show to draw attention to a problem he had been facing for months.
He explained to the police that more than 18 corpses of suspected criminals, killed by security operatives since last year, were still lying in his mortuary. He said the bodies had not been evacuated or claimed, and the situation had become overwhelming.
Police authorities have since confirmed that the suspect remains in custody. They also stated that investigations are ongoing to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
