Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has hinted that the 2027 presidential election may be his last attempt at grabbing the top job in Nigerian politics.
2027 will be the 8th time Atiku is contesting for the President of Nigeria. According to him this time around it proved to be a challenge.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News Channel Wednesday evening, Atiku replied when asked about his political future: “I believe that will be my last outing. So that’s incontrovertible. Because the stakes are higher.”
Atiku has contested for the presidency across multiple platform they include the People’s Democratic Party, Action Congress and now the African Democratic Congress. Atiku argued that he was still relevant in Nigeria’s political space, insisting that experience remains critical to leadership.
“I represent both the past and the future,” Atiku said. “We have seen various levels of leadership in the country, both young and old, and we’re experiencing them. And I still believe that our expectations of the young leadership is below what we thought. They require experience and they require tutelage from the older generation.”
