A woman who appeared to be mentally ill and got pregnant by unknown persons was rescued by the Police while she was giving birth to a baby girl by the roadside in Kwaita village, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, said the woman gave birth on Sunday and the police were alerted to her distress, prompting the officer in charge of the Gender Unit at Kwali Division, alongside her team, to swiftly mobilised to the scene.
“The mother and her newborn were safely rescued and taken to General Hospital, Kwali, where they received medical attention and were later discharged in stable condition,” Adeh stated.
She added that the Welfare Officer of Kwali Area Council, Sadiq Kwali, was contacted in line with standard procedures.
Adeh also revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, commended the officers involved for their prompt response, professionalism, and compassion in handling the situation.
