A trader and his customer have lost their lives following an argument over the purchase of sachet water and a cup of garri.
The tragic twist of fate happened in Kokami village in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State on April 4 when Ibrahim Auwal went to purchase the item from the trader identified as Joe Jones popularly known in the area as KC Jones.
Disagreement over the method of payment turned violent as the two young men engaged in fisticuff, which led to the fatal stabbing of Auwal. He died later in the hospital where he was rushed for treatment.
But later Auwal friends attacked KC Jones, killed him and set his body ablaze. This led to more violence in the area.
According to the Katsina State Police Command four suspects have been arrested in connection with the mob killing. Abubakar Aliyu, police spokesperson in the state, said officers responded promptly and restored calm in the area.
The Katsina State Government condemned the incident, describing the violence as unfortunate and unacceptable.
Nasir Mu’azu, commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said the incident stemmed from a personal dispute.
“No individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. All those involved will be brought to justice,” he said.
Mu’azu added that security personnel have been deployed to the area and joint patrols are ongoing to maintain peace.
He said Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina, has commiserated with the families of the victims and urged community leaders to promote peaceful coexistence.
