Insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria worsened Thursday night when bandits abducted over 180 citizens from Zamfara and Kaduna States communities
In Zamfara the heavily armed bandits raided the villages of Kurfa Ɗanya and Kurfan Magaji in the Bukkuyum Local Government Area from where over 150 persons were marched into captivity.
Suleiman Abubakar the lawmaker representing the Gumi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said in a BBC Hausa Service interview that the attacks occurred late Thursday night, while the community members slept.
“The government’s security priorities have shifted toward Borno State due to the resurgence of Boko Haram insurgents. We are pleading for the same level of attention, as Zamfara is facing equally dire security challenges”, Abubakar stated.
Meanwhile in Kaduna State 10 persons including seven members of the same family were kidnapped in the Unguwar Sabon-Titi along Katari–Hayin Dam axis in Kachia Local Government Area.
Residents of Katari said the attack occurred around 9:32 p.m. on Thursday.
“The attackers initially operated quietly without firing shots but began shooting sporadically after leaving the community with their victims.”
“The bandits came in large numbers and surrounded my neighbour’s house before some of them entered and took away members of the family. They later moved to another house and abducted three persons,” said a community leader.
The abducted family members were identified as Jummai Amos, Barnabas Amos, Iko Amos, Baby Amos, Eunice Amos, Eshiwan Amos and Godwin Amos, while the three other victims were named as Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa and Alfred Iriyo.
Residents were seen trooping to the affected homes on Friday morning to sympathise with the families of the victims.
A source said that security operatives had commenced a search operation in nearby forests with a view to rescuing the victims.
