Ghana’s Black Stars seem to be off course in their preparations for the 2026 World Cup as head coach Otto Addo has headed for the exit door.
This followed a string of loses in the pre-World Cup matches. These include recent defeats 5-1 to Austria, 2-1 to Germany and earlier losses to Japan and South Korea.
Otto Addo guided the Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup, but in recent times he had struggled for results.
Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON after finishing bottom of their group without a win, they barely scraped up a win on the last day of the CAF World Cup qualifiers to win a ticket to the World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association is now considering a list of option to appoint as coach to lead the team to the world soccer fiesta to jointly hosted by US, Canada and Mexico. The Black Stars will face England, Croatia and Panama in their group games.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course,” said the association in a statement.
Elated Ghanaian football fans are now wishing the GFA could hire coaches like Enzo Maresca who was sacked by Chelsea in January and French coach Harve Rennard who has experience coaching African teams.
But it seems with little time left the GFA may turn to former coach Kwesi Appiah who led Sudan to the 2025 AFCON and also Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei.
