Thirteen guests at wedding party have been killed by suspected bandits and unspecified numbers of people kidnapped in the Kahir community, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
According to reports the incident occurred on Sunday at about 11.47pm, when the bandits numbering more 30 invaded the community and opened fire in the hall where the party is holding. 13 guests were instantly killed, while many others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The bandits operated in the community for over an hour shooting and looting provision stores and the only pharmacy in the community.
According to a community leader, those killed include as Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah and Francis Unguwa Doya.
Kaduna Police Spokesperson DSP Hassan Masur said the police was still piecing together information on the incident: “The command is yet to get details of the incident that happened in Kahir community, but a comprehensive report on the incident will made available after getting details of the incident, “he said.
But the Kaduna deputy governor Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and Senator Sani Musa have visited the injured victims at the hospital in Kagarko.
About three weeks ago bandits also invaded the area capturing 14 people including a vigilante operative and his wife. They are still in captivity.
