American born singer Chappell Roan has been banned from performing at the 2026 Todo Mundo no Rio by Rio de Janeiro Mayor for allegedly sending her guards after the stepdaughter of former Chelsea and Arsenal player Jorginho.
Jorginho accused the singer of harassing his 11 years-old stepdaughter who is a big fan of hers. He wrote on Instagram that he was in the same hotel in Rio de Janeiro with his wife [Catherine Harding] and the daughter when the incident happened.
He said his daughter saw Chappell Roan and merely walked over to her table just to have a look and verify if she was really the one seated there.
“What happened next was completely disproportionate,” Jorginho wrote.
“A large security guard came over to our table while they we were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.”
“He even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.”
“It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this.
“I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No-one should have to go through this, especially not a child.”
Jorginho a defensive midfielder won the Europa Cup with Chelsea. Though born Brazilian he played for the Italian national team helping them win the European title in 2021 by beating England at Wembley.
Reacting to the episode Eduardo Cavaliere Rio de Janeiro Mayor wrote on his X social media platform: “I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city – this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt that Shakira @shakira @Shakira_Brasil would do that!”
Shakira is set to perform in the event which has also seen the likes of Madonna and Lady Gaga in the past. The mayor added that Jorginho’s daughter is invited to the show as guest of honour.
Todo Mundo no Rio, which is a free concert taking place on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, began in 2024 with Madonna, which drew a record audience of 1.6 million people. Gaga‘s performance the following year drew 2.5 million!
