Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) president Abubakar Yakubu has stressed the importance of keeping fit for Nollywood actors.
Yakubu who was speaking Saturday at the 2026 “AGN Health Campaign and Walk for Life” held in Abuja noted that being physically fit was a necessity for all actors because of the nature of their job.
He stated that actors often have little time to maintain healthy lifestyles and the annual “AGN Health Campaign and Walk for Life” is a constant reminder of the need to get physical.
“We are introducing a sports club to ensure that members take part in regular physical exercise, which is another straightway to wellness.
“Actors are supposed to always be in perfect health, because you can get a role that will require physicality and you are expected to perform well,”
Also speaking AGN Federal Capital Territory Mayor Salma Aminu urged actors and other industry professionals to prioritise healthy lifestyles to prevent potential health issues.
“This initiative raises awareness for actors to take their health seriously. If we continue this annually, members will be encouraged to undergo regular checkups,” Aminu said.
Participants received screenings for sugar levels, high blood pressure, malaria, hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, and eye conditions. Free glasses and medications were also administered by health officials.
Drew Odoh, Director of Communication, AGN FCT, praised the initiative, acknowledging the resources required. “This shows the leadership’s commitment to the welfare of actors. It is an excellent opportunity for members to get proper health checks,” he said.
