Emmanuel Ishado a community leader in Ilasan Housing Estate Jakande, Lekki Eti-Osa Local Community Development Area, Lagos State has accused the All Progressive Congress of political victimisation, intimidation and thuggery.
According to Mr. Ishado a philanthropist, former Rotary Club of Ikate president and a member of Rotary International, the APC in Lagos State is after him because of his support for Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
He said his property has been demolished, his business threatened and he continues to receive death threat phone calls due to his political leaning.
“My political involvement exposed me to serious threats and violence from the All Progressive Congress political thugs.
“Firstly, they told me that no where is safe for me and my family as long as APC and it Political cult thugs are everywhere and they are well connected with perfect networking.
“Secondly, two of my Properties including the business shop were demolished in early 2024 and the other (flat building) was demolished in 2026.
He said his trouble began in 2023 when he started mobilising his community in support of Peter Obi.
“During the run up to the 2023 presidential election, I mobilised my community to support the aspirations of Mr. Peter Obi, but this did not go down well with the APC hierarchy in Lagos.
“On January 15, 2023 around 8:00.p.m, a group of young men whom I suspected to be a political cult group working for APC led by one James Ayuba a.k.a Number 1, boldly came to my residence and threatened that I should stay away from campaigning for Peter Obi of the Labour Party, otherwise they will kill me and my family.
“It didn’t end there. On March 16, 2023 I got a phone call from an unknown number threatening to kill me if I continued to support Peter Obi of the labour Party.
“Just a couple of days later, precisely on March 20,2023, at about 9:30.p.m, four individuals came to my residence aggressively and physically attacked me in my home.
” I sustained various injuries to my eyes, forehead and shoulder. I formally reported this incident to the Police Authority, but there was no formal investigation.
” Instead, I was warned by the police not to attend any polling Unit in Eti-OSA with my family.”
Mr. Ishado said despite the violence, Mr. Obi won in his area much to the chagrin of the APC in Lagos State.
” After the election, I received information from a reliable source that my life was in danger. Fearing for my safety, I fled Nigeria to the United kingdom where I sought temporary refuge.
“I returned to Nigeria after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared winner nationally amid irregularities.”
“We were informed by reliable sources that my residence and business premises will be demolished due to my political affiliation.
While away, my wife called my attention that the same group of cult thugs came to my house to demand for my return from wherever I’m hiding. In the process, my wife was attacked where she sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
Mr Ishado said that ahead of the 2027 election, the intimidation has started again.
“I am calling on President Tinubu and the national APC to prevail on their goons to stop this political witch hunt.
“I am a leading figure in the community. Every Nigerian is constitutionally guaranteed the right to freedom of association.
“My life and those of my family members are under serious threats. We are not safe even in the hands of the police who are supposed to protect us.
“At this point I am sending a “Save our Soul” message to all Nigerians. I have made a lot of contributions to the development of my community.
“These include the construction of Boreholes water , distribution of schools materials to children, tree planting projects, sponsorship of hundreds of young adults for computer training, donations of dictionary stands, supports for school clinics and community health centres, cash grants for Petty traders.”
