As Liverpool prepare to take on Galatasaray in Wednesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg tie Dominik Szoboszlai has pleaded with Liverpool fans to back the team.
Fans walked out of Anfield on Sunday after the Reds failed to beat struggling Tottenham. They conceded a late goal that infuriated their booing fans. And against visiting Galatasaray, the fans may turn on their team again if they fail to sparkling.
Szoboszlai who scored from a freekick to give Liverpool something to believe in the Premier League tie urged the fans not to walk away
“I don’t think it helps us that after 80 minutes people start to go home; it doesn’t help us at all.
“Stick with us. Everyone is noticing that, and when we concede a goal, still people are leaving – you don’t leave when we score. I understand the frustration, but we need them; we need everybody.
“It should be normal that in hard times we stick together more because that’s what we need.”
Liverpool sit in fifth place with eight games to go, behind fourth-placed Aston Villa by two points. They need to get a result from Galatasaray to assure their fans.
Failure to overturn the result will see Slot’s men miss out on another trophy and only have the FA Cup to play for when it comes to silverware this season.
