Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has made a €5 million winning bonus pledge, if his team eliminate Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.
The Turkish Champions will reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, if they survive the expected Liverpool onslaught. The first leg at the Rams Park Stadium in Istanbul ended 1-0. Top striker Victor Osimhen had asked Galatasaray to do something special to motivate the team in the second leg show down.
Qualification for the quarter-finals could also bring a major financial boost for the Turkish giants, with Galatasaray reportedly in line for a €66 million windfall if they progress.
The reward forms part of a broader bonus structure introduced by the club during their European campaign. The squad has already been promised €1.5 million for their victory in the Istanbul derby against Beşiktaş J.K. and €2 million for eliminating Juventus in the Champions League play-offs.
Osimhen who provide the assist for Maria Lemina to score their only goal has urged his teammates to buckle up for the rough ride in Liverpool.
“I think we can hurt Liverpool in the second leg. We have done a good job so far,” the forward stated, clearly confident that the job is only half done as they eye a spot in the quarter-finals.
