Arsenal in a dramatic finale to their Premier League clash with Everton Saturday had the last laugh with a 2-0 win at a tension soaked Emirates Stadium.
North London was all sweaty as Everton forced Arsenal to a stalemate for most of the game till Mikel Arteta introduced 16-year-old Max Bowen and Viktor Gyokeres. And Bowen did pull a rabbit out of the hat for the Gunners.
In the 89th minute, Bowen’s cross into Everton’s box caused chaos as Jordan Pinkford failed to make contact with the ball in the air, from the goal mouth malee Gyokeres tapped in to give the Gunners and their fans the much needed breather.
In stoppage time Everton won a corner and all their players flocked to the Arsenal box hoping to snatch a late equaliser.
But Bowen latched onto the ball from a clearance, beat an opponent that was approaching, and then raced down to the open Everton net to slot in the goal that made him the youngest player to score in the Premier League.
“It was magical. He Bowen changed the game, he made things happen. At that age in this context and pressure? It’s just not normal
“People will say in years to come I was there in that stadium when that kid scored.” Arteta said after the game.
