Nigeria’s minister of defence General Musa rtd Wednesday held an emergency meeting with the service chiefs following recent terrorist attacks on military bases and civilain targets in the North-East.
Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass; and representatives of the National Intelligence Agency, among other security officials attended the meeting held at the defence headquarters in Abuja.
Gen who spoke before the commencement of the meeting, stated that it was meant to review the operational strategies to strengthen the fight against terrorists.
Acknowledging the military casualties recorded in recent attacks, the minister said the terrorists had suffered greater losses.
“We know we have recorded some casualties, but it is more on the side of terrorists,” Mr Musa insisted.
Boko Haram fighters last week invaded a military base in Borno and killed a senior officer identified as Lieutenant Colonel SI Iliyasu, a commanding officer of 222 Battalion, in the Konduga area of the state.
Soldiers and civilians were also killed in Gwoza after Boko Haram insurgents raided a military base and attacked the community, killing over 300 civilians last Thursday.
On Friday, Boko Haram terrorists also invaded four military bases in Konduga, Mainok, Jakana, and Marte towns in the state, killing several soldiers and burnt military ammunition.
