Top striker Victor Osimhen said he is optimistic Galatasaray can finish the job against Liverpool at Anfield and qualify for the quarter-final of the Champions League next week Wednesday.
Osimhen provided the assist for the 1-0 pipping of the English Premier League Champions at the Rams Park in Istanbul, Turkey in a frantically contested tie.
Despite the tight marking on him, Osimhen proved dangerous and had a goal chalked off for offside.
Speaking ahead the second leg he said: “Next week is going to be really hard, I’m proud of the team and performance we have put against a side like Liverpool…
“We would look at our mistakes and see how we can improve. I’m optimistic we can do some damages at Anfield.”
Before the match Osimhen was taken on an emotional trip by Galatasaray fans who unfurled a giant poster of his late mom.
“It was incredible seeing what the fans did. When I was coming out from the dugout and saw the banner, it was really emotional for me. I was very young when I lost my mum.
To see this type of gesture, like they said, ‘we are family’, this club and these fans mean so much to me. I’m happy that I came here and that in my career I’m able to experience this type of compassionate and amazing people.
“I think me and Galatasaray were meant to cross paths. It is destiny, and I’m happy to be here.”
