Cross River ADC members...Crisis brewing

The Cross River African Democratic Congress membership registration drive ran into a snag Tuesday as security agents sealed off the venue of an inaugural meeting of the Membership Mobilization, Registration and Revalidation Committee.
Policemen occupied the venue as early as 6.00pm on Tuesday and the committee for the registration exercise chaired by Eko Alobo, failed to hold the meeting. The police presence at the venue was as a result of a petition written the Cross River State ADC leadership who dissociated itself from the gathering and the individuals behind it.
The ADC in Cross River headed by Ambassador John Oga revealed that those who were gathered at the Marian Road event centre were individuals trying to hijack the party, hence the decision to inform the police to seal off the venue.
“The state leadership of ADC in Cross River State was not involved in submitting the published names of the membership of the purported committee.
“The composition is alien to us. Even in its alien status, the committee has refused to visit or recognise the state leadership,” said Dr. Mcphalane Ejah vice chairman of the ADC Central Senatorial District while addressing the press in Calabar.
“To forestall any breakdown of law and order, the party said it notified security agencies about an unauthorised meeting scheduled at the Ascot Event Centre along Marian Road in Calabar.
“A formal letter was sent to the Commissioner of Police, warning that the meeting was convened by unauthorised persons and could lead to unrest.”
