Adamawa State governor Umaru Fintiri, said he is appalled with the return of violence to the Tshobo and Bwatiye communities in the Lamurde Local Government area and has imposed a 24-hour curfew.
The violence between the two tribes reached a boiling point last year with several people killed including seven protesting women who were allegedly shot by soldiers. But there was renewed act of violence between the communities last weekend, when the Tshobo tribesmen allegedly attacked their Bwatiye neighbours.
According to a statement issued by chief press secretary to the governor Humsahi Wonosikou the renewed breech of peace was unacceptable to the government. Governor Fintiri urged residents to comply with the directive and provide useful information to security agencies to help restore peace.
He emphasised that the government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order. He warned that anyone who contravenes the directive will be arrested and made to face the law.
